GREEN RENOVATION / REMODEL

 The “go green” movement is going strong in the housing industry.  Renovating your home with green techniques can make it more energy efficient and help you save on your monthly energy bills.  Not all green updates are large changes; small changes can make a big difference.  One of our renovation contractors can meet with you to see if your home is losing you money and help you choose smart green renovations.

 Here are some examples of energy efficient changes:

 INSULATION – Insulation is one of the best ways to keep your energy bills down.

-       Windows – Caulking around windows can help insulate a home, however if your home was built years ago, your windows themselves may not be well insulated.  Many new windows offer better insulation than those made years ago to help save on energy costs.  Consult with our renovation contractors to see if replacing your old windows will benefit your home.

-       Walls – Often we don’t think about the walls when we’re thinking of energy-efficiency, however the insulation in the walls can really help improve the energy costs of your home.

-       Roof – Everyone knows there is insulation in the attic, but there are many types of insulation, do you have the best type of insulation and has it been laid through your entire attic?  The insulation in your attic is very important for keeping the heat in during the winter and the out in the summer.

APPLIANCES – When it’s time to update your old appliances, updating them to Energy Star certified appliances can save a lot of money on energy bills.

-      Tankless Water Heaters – Tankless Water heaters can save you a lot of money because they don’t heat the water in the tank until you’re ready to use it.  These can also save you space as they are much smaller than traditional water heaters.  However, some considerations including how much water is used, how often, and how far the water has to travel should be addressed.  Our remodeling contractors can help you choose whether this is a good choice for your household and if so, what type and size would be appropriate for your lifestyle.

-      Air Conditioners – Choosing the right size air conditioner for your home is important in keeping your electricity bills down.  If an air conditioner is too small it will work too hard to cool the house, if it is too large than it will cost more to run the air conditioner than is needed.  Our renovation contractors can help ensure you’ve chosen the right size air conditioner for your home.

LIGHTING – LED lighting can save you money in your energy costs but can be costly to initially purchase.  Therefore, instead of trying to light the entire home, to save on initial costs, LED lighting has become popular as an effect in accent and recessed lighting inside the home and for exterior lighting.  Changing incandescent light bulbs for fluorescent light bulbs might cost a little more up front, but florescent bulbs will last longer and save energy in the long run.

Principal Bios

 Aaron graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stout, and he received his Bachelor of Arts in Science. He majored in Construction and minored in Business Finance. After graduation, he was courted by one of the nation’s largest and most respected hotel chains, Hyatt Hotels.

 Aaron worked with Hyatt Hotels as assistant director of engineering. During this time, he completed two multi-million dollar projects: the opening of the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, in Chicago, Illinois, and a complete renovation of the Hyatt Regency Tampa.

 All the while, Aaron persistently concentrated on construction, focusing on a rich array of architectural styles, cultural influences and market trends. Aaron’s passion guided him to accept an invitation from a highly respected and well-known builder.

 Aaron deftly moved from Director of Construction to Director of Sales to President and Chief Operating Officer. All the while, his ardor for building grew stronger, his vision clearer. He sought independence and to further perfect and nurture his craft; hence the birth of Arturo Barcellona Custom Homes.

Meet Jason Vermilya, Chief Operating Officer

 Jason Vermilya grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania. He worked along side his father, a well established building contractor in Pennsylvania, and he deftly learned the ropes of the construction trade at a young age. Putting all his construction knowledge on the side, Jason headed off to school and obtained a Masters’ Degree in the Science of Education from Bloomsburg University. After graduation, he moved to Florida and accepted a teaching position: 9th grade Science.  During the summer of his first year teaching Jason built on the construction expertise he gained as a young man, and he started a painting & construction company. He worked diligently in the summers and on weekends, and he found himself looking forward to each new project. He approached each job like an organized science project. All the while, Jason was quickly gaining a remarkable reputation as the best in his field with his construction projects and the best in the classroom with his teaching styles.

In order to direct his energy towards one of his passions, Jason decided to focus on one field. It was during the summer of his second year teaching, and after being nominated for “teacher of the year”, when Jason was forced to make a decision between construction and teaching. Although, he knew he would miss teaching, he decided to follow in his fathers’ footsteps and pursue his goals in the construction industry. It was his first passion above all else, and it had remained in the forefront of his career aspirations.

Now, 10 years later, Jason has molded himself into a contractor like no other. He has taken a special interest in Green Building and is passionate about the latest innovative technology in building materials. He has discovered that building to perfection is a science, and he approaches each of his building endeavors with a scientific mind and creative style.
